Have you ever heard of the Cassowary? I didn’t until recently. Essentially it’s a big blue bird, but this isn’t the big bird from Sesame St. Quite the opposite in fact.
In this Cassowary Survival Guide, you’ll learn how to survive a Cassowary attack so you’ll be prepared if you ever encounter one. We also go over what the bird is, why you should know what it is, and what to do if you ever encounter one.
Meet The Worlds Most Dangerous Bird
Meet The Worlds Deadliest Bird. This bird was declared the deadliest bird on earth. Here’s what you need to know to prepare and survive a cassowary encounter. We’ll also cover how to survive an attack.
Have you ever encountered one of these birds? I would hope not and hope you never do.
So what makes these brightly blue colors birds so dangerous? One thing primarily.
These birds literally have a dagger attached to their foot. I don’t know about you, but I would want to know exactly what to do to not get stabbed in the throat by doing the wrong thing trying to defend myself.
How To Prepare For An Encounter
Here’s what you need to know.
They have a dagger on their feet. If they swing that at your neck… you see where I’m going. That’s your main point of awareness if you encounter one of these birds.
Here’s the problem. They’re also fast, really fast. Cassowaries can run speeds of up to 30MPH. So running from them isn’t that simple. The worst part is that they attack by leaping forward in the air while trying to eviscerate you with their dagger feet.
The one solution that would nearly guarantee your safety would be a 12 gauge slug to its chest. You would have to be a good shot though. These aren’t small birds by any means. They grow to 4 – 5.5 feet tall.
One tactic you could try is if you have any food on you, drop it, and hopefully, it will become more interested in the food you dropped than continue coming after you.
The best defense comes down to situational awareness. Which we all should be practicing on a day-to-day basis. Becoming aware of all things around us so we can spot potential threats as soon as possible and react accordingly.
It’s a good idea to watch some footage of the bird in action. Knowing how it moves and attacks helps.
Conclusion
Now you know what you need to be prepared for and what to do in case you ever run into one of these things. Get away from it as soon and as quickly as possible and avoid them at all costs. If they’re threatened and decide to attack, it could be deadly.
