As long as the items you choose meet the requirements and functions if the category, then you can use any item you wish.<\/p>\n
Also, there are two categories that were left out completely in the first list.<\/p>\n
Shelter and water.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\nWater is just about the most essential thing needed for our survival.<\/p>\n
No item in the classic essentials list meets the category for hydration or shelter.<\/p>\n
The new survival essential systems list does a good job at covering all our bases for surviving.<\/p>\n
Basic and simple. It got the job done. But things have changed somewhat.<\/p>\n
Not so much “change”. The same group just realized that it would be better to have the list made up of systems instead of specific individual items.<\/p>\n
Which makes sense and is definitely\u00a0a better way to organize the list.<\/p>\n
<\/span>The Updated List<\/span><\/h2>\nHere are the items on the updated survival essential systems list.<\/p>\n
<\/span>1. Navigation<\/span><\/h3>\nNavigation typically consists of a map and compass.<\/p>\n
<\/span>2. Sun Protection<\/span><\/h3>\nTo protect yourself from heat and sun exposure, get sunglasses and sunscreen.<\/p>\n
<\/span>3. Insulation<\/span><\/h3>\nTo pack some insulation, bring extra clothing and clothing specifically for the outdoors or for the environment where you will most likely be.<\/p>\n
If your camping, for example, outerwear is the optimal choice.<\/p>\n
<\/span>4. Illumination<\/span><\/h3>\nLight your way with your choice of either a headlamp or flashlight. Or better yet, both.<\/p>\n
<\/span>5. First-aid Supplies<\/span><\/h3>\nA basic first aid kit and medical skills are essential.<\/p>\n
<\/span>6. Fire<\/span><\/h3>\nFire is one of the primary pillars for survival. You can make your own waterproof matches. Pack a\u00a0 lighter and candles for a quick and easy fire resource.<\/p>\n
<\/span>7. Repair Kit and Tools<\/span><\/h3>\nCarrying duct tape, a multi-tool, and similar tools you can use to repair minor equipment damage is important.<\/p>\n
<\/span>8. Nutrition<\/span><\/h3>\nPack extra food as your trip may take an unexpected detour.<\/p>\n
<\/span>9. Hydration<\/span><\/h3>\nPack extra water because we can only survive about three days without water, we can’t afford to not have it.<\/p>\n
<\/span>10. Emergency\u00a0Shelter<\/span><\/h3>\nHaving shelter is a must. If you don’t have a designated shelter like a tent, you’ll need to know how to build a primitive shelter with the resources you have on you or around you.<\/p>\n
