I was reading up on mountaineering earlier today and they mentioned carabiners and how they use them while climbing.
Mountaineers have some of the best survival gear and gadgets around. One of them is the carabiner.
There are so many survival uses for carabiners, there should be an essential item for every survival kit and bug-out bag. Especially every bug-out vehicle.
In this post, we cover the survival uses for carabiners and why you might want to start carrying one with your EDC kit.
What Is A Carabiner?
First, let’s just cover what it is and what the carabiner pronunciation is, if you’ve never heard of it. It has a strange pronunciation.
Carabiner is pronounced > Care-Uh-Beaner
Now that we know how to say the word, let’s move on to how we can use them to survive.
7 Carabiner Hacks To Survive
There’s plenty of carabiner tricks to justify carrying one with your emergency kit. Or keep one in your BOB vehicle at the least.
Here are 7 ways to use carabiners to survive.
How To Use a Carabiner
Here’s a quick guide on how to use a carabiner before getting into the list.
Make Your Own DIY Block and Tackle
Having a block and tackle is essential for your bug-out vehicle. You can buy one already made or you can store rope and carabiners to make your own.
Make A Survival Kit
You can make a survival carabiner kit.
Here’s a tutorial video on how to make it and all the supplies.
Make a Keychain
What is a carabiner keychain?
It’s simply the carabiner itself being used as the chain for keys. So instead of using a key ring or something else for the chain of the keychain, you can just use a carabiner. A smaller one would be most ideal. Unless you’re using them as keychains during actually climbing. Then you can go big or go home.
A survival kit isn’t the only kit you can use them for. They are useful for EDC purposes as well.
Here’s a video on why they’re good for EDC.
The Best Carabiner
The Rockd auto lock survival carabiner has gotten a lot of positive feedback. It might be the best tactical carabiner for survival there is on Amazon.
Carabiners are small and light weight. So they’re easy to pack and carry. If you’re seeking to improve your outdoor survival skills and take up mountain climbing, they are more than essential. If you’re not, they’re still more than useful, especially in an actual bug-out scenario. I’ll be picking a couple up to include in my bug-out bag.
