I’ve heard mixed answers on this question so I did some crawling for information. After finding everything about what is the most poisonous spider in the U.S. In our last post about deadly encounters with wild animals, we talked about the worlds deadliest bird. In this post, we’re going to cover what the most poisonous spider in the U.S. is.
Any guesses before finding out what it is?
I’ve heard mixed answers on this question so I did some crawling for information. After finding everything about what is the most poisonous spider in the U.S.
Here it is.
One point to quickly make, before getting to the most poisonous spiders, here’s the technical term to describe them. Technically speaking, spiders aren’t poisonous, they are venomous.
Here’s what you’ll find if you start crawling around the internet in hopes of getting a straight answer with action “venom” potency and stats of some sort proving its the “most venomous”.
Instead of that, here’s what I’ll say to this question. It depends on who you ask.
Scientists and zoologists have stated that since spiders willfully inject their venom into prey, that puts them into the category of venomous and not poisonous.
Now, let’s get to what they say is the most deadly.
Most Venomous Spider in The World
According to Ripleys Believe It Or Not, the Atrax robustus is the most poisonous spider in the World.
Also known as the “Sydney funnel-web spider”, the Atrax robustus is the most venomous spider. The poison it injects is so potent and deadly, about 15 minutes is all it takes to send you to heaven.
Sydney Funnel Web Spider Location
Depending on what you are in the United States, you may not have to lose a second of sleep worrying about one of these.
They are located primarily in Australia.
The Guinness Book of World Records Says
The Guinness book says that the most poisonous spider is the funnel-web spider in Australia as well.
Most Venomous Spider in The U.S.
Now to the king of venom in The United States.
The most deadly, most venomous spider in the US goes to… the black widow.
…and possibly a few different kinds of spiders.
We couldn’t find a direct answer other than the National Geographic resource that’s listed below on which one is the deadliest. So it seems the black widow is declared to be the more poisonous
Top 3 in The United States
However, since it’s rather unclear if there even is a “most poisonous”, here are the top three most poisonous in The United States that are all life-threatening to humans when injected with their venom.
- Brown Recluse
- Wolf Spider
According to LiveScience, the Brown Recluse spider is located Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and parts of Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska.
The Wolf spider is located nearly all over the world. They’re found in mountains, rainforests, and wetlands.
The hobo spider is located in the Northwestern part of the United States, primarily in Colorado.
All three of these species are deadly to people, in general, and represents what are hands down, the most deadliest spiders in the U.S.
Most Venomous Spider in North America
National Geographic says in their documentary below that the most venomous spider in North America is the female black widow.
Now you know the most poisonous spiders in the United States, North America, and the world. You know, they say that they’re more afraid of you than you are of them…
…well in these cases. It might be wise to be extra cautious if you’re around any of these eight-legged death weapons.
Have you ever seen one of these spiders?
