7 Must-Have Knives For Enthusiasts

There are many different knives and each of them is made for a specific function. They can perform many functions and can be used for dozens of ways. But each kind excels in one manner more than the others.

Here are the seven kinds of knives to familiarize yourself with.

1. EDC Knife

As the name suggests, this knife is for EDC purposes. It’s designed and made for you to carry on an everyday occurrence. So it’s smaller than most of the other knives and more compact.

It folds and is easy to put in your pocket for carrying.

2. Fillet Knife

This knife is for butchering and skinning. A common knife for hunters and campers to carry with them for preparing their wild game.

3. Combat Knife

The combat knife is the big bad sharp as hell kind of blade that you hope an enemy doesn’t have.

This is the knife you see Rambo use as he tears up anyone in his path.

These blades are made for hand-to-hand combat. They have a single edge, high carbon steel fixed blade. The blade has a clip point so the blade can thrust and slash in any way. When it comes to inflicting damage on to an enemy, this knife is built specifically for that.

The Marine Corps made this knife famous with their designs of a type of combat knife.

Some designs of this knife may even have a hollow handle that you can store other survival gear inside.

4. Bowie Knife

This knife was made famous by western hero Colonel James “Jim” Bowie, hence the name “Bowie Knife”.

This knife is made for hunting, fighting, and other survival-related tasks. A full tang Bowie Knife is recommended. Meaning the blade metal extends all the way through the handle.

The heavier the better for chopping wood if you’re going to need it for that. But be mindful of the weight if you’re going to be carrying it around all day.

5. Rescue Knife

This knife is most commonly used amongst EMT professionals, as well as firefighters and paramedics. Police will also carry this type of knife.

There are two primary features these knives have that are important for medical professionals to have.

  • A window breaker
  • A seat belt cutter

The rescue knife a folding knife that has a blade that’s usually partially serrated.

6. Tactical Knife

The tactical knife is a must-have for everyday knife users. It’s the standard knife to go to for self-defense and protection.

These are the knife that law enforcement and the military always carry on them. When they can’t get to their gun, they go to their tactical knife for protection.

These are on the larger side as far as knives go. They are folders. So they are easy to fold the blade in and out and easy to carry.

7. Chefs Knife

The Chef’s knife is all about preparing and cooking food.

The blade is designed for dicing, chopping, and slicing different food items. Stainless steel is the common blade material to go with.

You’ll want to avoid high carbon steels for this type of blade. High carbon steels are prone to rust. Which is not something you want to have getting mixed into your food.
